Peter Watts’ Directors’ Powers and Duties Awarded Best Legal Book

LexisNexis Author Wins JF Northey Memorial Book Award

AUCKLAND, 24 May 2010 – LexisNexis® New Zealand today announced that its 2009 publication, Directors’ Powers and Duties by Peter Watts, has received the JF Northey Memorial Book Award. The JF Northey Memorial Book Award is bestowed each year by the Legal Research Foundation (Inc) to recognise outstanding legal scholarship. The award recognizes the best monograph or text published in the preceding calendar year by a New Zealand-based author (or authors).

"The Award is in memoriam for Jack Northey, former Dean of Auckland Law School, and is widely regarded as the premier legal writing award in New Zealand," says Alexandra Sims, Senior Lecturer in Commercial Law, Faculty of Business & Economics, The University of Auckland.

Peter Watts, Associate Dean (Postgraduate), Faculty of Law, The University of Auckland, was delighted to receive the award during the Legal Research Foundation’s annual general meeting held at Old Government House on 11 May 2010. “I took some convincing to embark on writing a textbook, but as the project went on, I came to enjoy it more and more. There was plenty of room in the topic 'Directors' Powers and Duties’ for new research and thinking, and I was given a free hand by LexisNexis to express my, sometimes extrovert, views."

Hugo Mahoney, Managing Director of LexisNexis New Zealand, says this award recognises the quality of this publication and the hard work and outstanding level of legal scholarship that Peter applied to this work. "Directors' Powers and Duties is an excellent book and we are proud that it has been acknowledged in this way."

Peter Watts’ Directors’ Powers and Duties is available for sale at www.lexisnexis.com/store/nz at a price of $160 excluding GST and freight and handling.
